About the Artist Robyne Voyce previous vocation as a furniture and fashion designer and her careful treatment of fabric continue to inform her artistic practice. Her images are highly polished, with fine attention to detail and have an inherently balanced quality. Frequently incorporating dressmaking tools and techniques, Voyce 'quilts' together evocative images from another time that form an entry point for our own memories. As critic Kath Webster described her work in a recent group exhibition "Robyne Voyce's swans swim in a series of retro-mood prints. She places the simplified image of a swan over lacy-patterned backgrounds. The bird is reminiscent of the Crown Lynn ceramic swans that used to grace suburban mantelpieces in the 50's. It's a friendly shape, made more feminine and exotic for the pool of fabric behind it and modern with the use of strong colour."
