About the Artist
As an artist, and illustrator Vickie L. VanHurley has always created figurative illustrations, including fashion illustrations in color pencil and graphite, her media of choice. For over the past decade Vickie has been developing a series of illustrations entitled “Love Me.†The illustrations provide an alternative to negative images of people or color. The “Love Me†series offers visual examples of loving oneself as a combatant to the misogynistic images and portrayals of women of color in mainstream media.
Vickie has always been a patron and participant of the arts. She was told she has been drawing since she was able to hold a pencil. Vickie has been a graphic designer and illustrator for over 25 years, which includes 9 years of corporate design. She has been cultivating the artistic talent of others for more than 18 years. More specifically, she has been a college professor for 11 years.
