About the Artist My current paintings are gently expressive with flurries of brushstrokes and soft veils of saturated colour. My usual starting point for a painting is the vast sky and its ever-changing cloud formations, although this is just the starting point. I never tire of watching the sky, observing the changes in light and tone or feeling my spirits lift as I leave buildings to be surprised by spectacular colour combinations - especially grey tones - and the smell of the cool fresh air. I’m not interested in capturing a photo-realistic image of the sky, it changes too quickly and isn’t that what cameras were invented for? No, I’m interested in sensation and emotion and the attempt to capture an essence of that through the medium of paint. Paint does something a camera can’t.. It's more human in a way, and I love that about it.
